Summary of this ride...

Riders from (5) states.
Just missed a tornado after driving through a ton of liquid sunshine in the middle of the night.
Arrived safely and the Kings were very gracious hosts.
The ride home was even dry!

Ride Information...

This ride has just been added to the schedule for this year. This ride will be a "Fun Run" for this year, you will not need a Pledge for this ride but there is a $10.00 Registration Fee Per Rider and Per Passenger that will go towards your dinner, this fee must be sent in ahead of time, details are in the Prices Tab up above. This ride is open to everyone, if you wish you can show up by car or however you want. This is an IBA SaddleSore ride, 1000 miles in less than 24 hours, but you do not have to make it an IBA run if you do not want to. You can leave from anywhere no matter how many miles it takes you to get to the party at the end.

We will be riding to a good friend of Hoagy's in Pace, Florida. Once there you will be provided with Food and Beverage at 6 PM to ?? on May 8th, 2009. There are motels close by or if you prefer to you can stay in the yard, shower can be provided.

Betsy said they have a Hot Tub in case anyone has some sore muscles after the ride, so bring your swim suit. Sorry no Birthday Suits :) !!

We would like to thank Larry and Betsy King in advance for their hospitality and letting us use there home for a stopping point for this "Fun Run" and providing a place to rest, eat and have a good time.

A Special note to this ride:

We will have a starting point of TravelCenters of America, Exit 11 (Dallas Pike) off of I-70 West Virginia. With this being a "Fun Run" we are allowing people to start from anywhere in the US as long as you have at least 1000 miles in less than 24 hours and you have to pick your own starting and stopping point, keep all of your paperwork and get your route ok' d by IBA personally. We will not get your route ok' d for you nor will we submit your Information to the IBA for you like we usually do. If you start at our starting and stopping point then we will turn in all of the information to the IBA.

On May 9th, 2009 we will be having a group luncheon at the famous Flora-Bama Lounge. Lunch will be at 11 AM (LOCAL TIME) and this lunch is your own expense, Hoagy's Heroes will not be providing this meal. After everyone is done eating and talking we can all split and go our separate ways. Leaving with a full belly, a lot of new friends and hopefully a nice tan! Also Betsy said you can swim in the Gulf at the Flora-Bama so bring you swim suit if you wish to go into the gulf and have a dip!

Hotel...

There is a Red Roof Inn close in case some one would like to stay at somewhere other than Larry and Betsy's place.

Just to let you know, Betsy said that they have no problems with everyone staying at their place, they have plenty of places for people to crash for the night. She also said that they have plenty of pillows, blankets, sheets and towels. Plus they have shampoo and shaving stuff in case someone might need it. So you can pack a little light if you wish.

Summary of this ride...

30 bikes along with 3 passengers participated
Scheduled gas stop in southern WV was a bust, as the gas stations that were suppose to be open, were closed. Riders had to drive into Virginia to obtain fuel.
One rider blew a rear tire and took a ride in the median strip. All turned out fine with only a few bumps and bruises and a new tire.
Brother Bill blew up his 1980 “Trouble Head” and ended up getting trailered home.
No liquid sunshine, but there was a great deal of fog during the morning hours.

There were several 1st time distance riders and fun was had by all.

Quick Directions for Hillbilly 1000

Here are your quick directions for Hoagy’s Heroes, Inc. Hillbilly 1000 I.B.A. SaddleSore, June 27th, 2009.

This run is totally in-state West Virginia; you must follow these directions to get the correct amount of miles to finish this run.  If you look at the map of this run it could look confusing to you so we took the time to separate each leg of this run into parts to make it easier for you to follow, and if you look at each leg of the run you will see it is quite simple if you just follow each leg exactly.  We will be on major highways, mountains, two lane roads, maybe even a back country road so please be careful.  You will also be traveling a lot on I-77 which has some toll booths.  Each stop is $1.25; we recommend that you have a roll of quarters with you for these tolls.  You may want to cut these out so that you can have them easily in your pocket or taped to your windshield for easy access.

At each of these stops you must stop at the gas station that we provide you the name of, if for some reason you can not get into that gas station, you must stop at a gas station nearest to the one provided and get your receipt signed by a cashier, make sure you have them spell their name legibly in case of verification.  At each stop you must get a receipt, make sure it has the CORRECT date and time on it.  If it does not have the correct time or date have the cashier sign and date it and write the time on it.  Make Sure It’s Legible!

MOST OF ALL KEEP IT SAFE AND HAVE FUN!!!

Directions...

This year Hoagy's Heroes, Inc. is treating our Dawn to Dusk 500 more like an I.B.A. run to get people used to how things are done on an Official I.B.A. ride. This year we are requiring 3 Gas Stops where you have to get a date and time on the receipt, just like the I.B.A. rides. Please follow the directions given to you and stop at these gas stations or one very close to them because we will be able to determine if you have deviated from the course by your start and end mileage.

Summary of this ride...

100 CCC: The (2) riders that rode pulled in with time to spare, and could not wait to start back the other way

50 CC: We were having such a good time that we did not want to leave. Our leader ran out of gas, not just once, but twice, out in the desert (He did have extra fuel) since we are talking about fuel, Bobby “Iron wing” Wilson put diesel instead of gas in his bike before we left
The liquid sunshine just poured and poured and poured.
In Houston, one group got stuck for 1 ½ hours due to an accident.

All arrived safely and under time.

Ride Information...
