Our Mission Statement...

What a Face!

"How often do you get to do something in life that you love and at the same time go for a world's record while raising monies for worthwhile charities."

Robert "Hoagy" Carmichael

(June 2004)

"It is the mission of Hoagy's Heroes, Inc. to organize and operate exclusively to sponsor motorcycle events for the purpose of raising money for the benefit of selected charitable causes.  Our work is guided by the common desire of our members and supporters to help the afflicted or less fortunate so they may enjoy the generosity of all who care.  It is our goal to promote safe motorcycle riding activities while participating in what we enjoy most ......motorcycle riding."

What we are...

First and foremost, we are bikers with a heart and a love for children.   Since 2003, under the dedicated drive and passion of Robert "Hoagy" Carmichael, we have organized annual long-distance motorcycle rides to raise money for children's charities.   Each year, our goal is to increase the number of riders and try to set a new world's record for the largest number of bikers to participate in a certified Iron Butt Association ride.

Hoagy’s Heroes riders have raised tens-of-thousands of dollars in pledges for A Special Wish Foundation.   Each rider is asked to submit a donation to participate in a ride and is also encouraged to solicit as many sponsors as possible to raise funds for our designated charities.    The number of riders has increased each year and we hope to see this trend continue.

But the really true Heroes are the kids who have been diagnosed as having life-threatening disorders.   They courageously battle these terrible afflictions every single day.   Hoagy's Heroes is committed to raising funds so that others may enjoy the wonderful things many of us take for granted.   We are so proud that over the past 4 years we have helped over thirty kids realize their dreams and special wishes.   The average "special wish" costs approximately $3,000.   Please be sure to take a few moments and visit our Kid’s Page and read their stories.   Then join us on our rides with your pledges and donations so we can make more dreams and special wishes come true.

These rides and granting the children their special wishes would not be possible without the magnificent support of volunteers.   The all-volunteer Hoagy's Heroes staff spends countless hours planning and organizing each ride while dozens of event-day volunteers provide essential support at the beginning and end of each ride.   In the past, these event-day volunteers have included staff of local motorcycle dealerships, law enforcement officers, fire fighters, members of civic organizations, and spouses and friends of many participants in the rides.

Our inaugural ride…

Iron Butt Association Bun-Burner 1500 World Record

June 17-18, 2004.  The ”Hoagy's 1500 Mile Special Wish Run” ride was completed by over sixty bikes and nearly seventy riders and passengers.   Upon completion of the ride, nearly sixty of those riders submitted the necessary Iron Butt Association (IBA) paperwork and received Bun-Burner certification.   That group of riders established a new world record for the most bikes to complete a single IBA Bun-Burner ride of 1500 miles in less than 36 hours.   You can learn more about this ride on our History page.

With over 24,000 members, IBA is dedicated to safe, long-distance motorcycle riding.    IBA does not have membership in the traditional sense.   The most notable way to become a member is to complete a certified IBA ride.   For more information about IBA, see http://www.ironbutt.com/about/default.cfm.
